What is McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release(MSTR)?
MSTR, is a gentle, profoundly effective, natural way of working on scar tissue. It can help the scar and surrounding areas rapidly return to a more normal state. MSTR is applied using gentle pressure moves with fingertips, this helps to gently free the restrictions in the scar tissue.
What is Oncology Restore Scar Specialist Therapy (ORSS)?
ORSS Therapists are well-versed in a range of manual techniques to treat patients recovering from cancer surgery, they have enhanced skills in addressing scarring, fibrosis, and common post-cancer surgery complications. This specialised knowledge will allow therapists to deliver improvements in their clients’ mobility, comfort, and overall well-being.
How Does Scar Tissue Impact the Body?
The effects of a scar on the body should not be underestimated. The implications of scar tissue extend far beyond the area of the scar and the original injury. Treatment of scar tissue is vital in order to resolve referred problems. Scar Therapy can help by restoring flexibility to the collagen fibres, resulting in lasting improvement.
Releasing scar tissue can result in:
Reduction in pain, hypersensitivity
A change in colour from white to pink
Lumps, bumps, ridges and dips becoming smoother
Increased movement and motion
Restored sensation and a reduction in numbness and the sensation of hot or cold
An increased blood flow and therefore oxygen to the area
Increased lymphatic drainage reducing swelling and redness
A release of emotion (especially if the scar was acquired in a traumatic or emergency situation)
FAQs About Scar Therapy
1. What if my scar is years old? Does Scar Therapy still work?
Yes, this technique may benefit scar tissue no matter how long you have it, even if it is decades old.
2. How long should I wait before treating my scar?
The scar must be well healed before any form of treatment. As a minimum, at least 6 to 8 weeks should be left between the date of the cause of the scar and the first treatment.
3. Can it be used on scars with screws, plates or implants?
Yes, it can be used on scars that have plates, pins, screws and rods. It can also be used on the scar from breast implant surgery as the technique is not used directly over the implant.
4. Can you get rid of Keloid and hypertrophic scars?
Keloid scars are much more difficult and slower to respond to treatment. Working preventatively is the best course of action (book an appointment for an initial treatment and home-care advice) or come to clinic as soon as you have any concerns. If you suspect your scar may be becoming keloid, rapid action is key, get in touch so you can start some home treatment using compression and silicone therapy. Hypertrophic scars are slower to respond than a normal scar, but will generally improve with therapy over a prolonged period. The best advice is: Do not ignore issues with your scar, the longer and more embedded the problem becomes, the harder it is to get results.
5. How often do you need to come for a treatment?
At Triona Stafford Therapies we usually treat clients every 2, 4 or 6 weeks. At each appointment, the scar is stimulated and a healing response is initiated (even in older scars). How many appointments you want to book, will depend on your needs and concerns. Many clients choose to book in for a single session for a formal assessment and advice, other clients return to complete a scar therapy program which is commonly between 4-8 treatments (number of treatments is dependent on your concerns and the severity of the issues).
MSTR and Restore Scar Technique is not intended to replace or substitute any medical advice or treatment. It is recommended that you consult your General Practitioner/Consultant about any health concerns.
